“There is no bad weather, just bad gear.” If you are already deep in the backcountry scene you have heard this many times before. If you have never heard this before, it’s mostly true. With the exception of some freak, rare weather, a piece of gear can be the determinant that makes or breaks the adventure.
This is my on-going list of my favorite pieces of gear when venturing into the mountains. This list is subjective and is personally what works for me. It it meant to be a jumping off point for you if you are in the market for some outdoor gear but don’t know brands, or layers etc.
BASELAYER: A baselayer is worn next or close to the skin and should fit snugly. A short or long sleeve T, or thin pant (leggings.) Think of starting with the “base” in your layering system.
Favorite Pieces: I have two, long sleeve pieces by Oiselle, and they are by far my favorite. Designed by women for women, this company knows what they are doing. The shirts I have are still in “almost new” condition after three seasons of wearing them. The Flyte Long Sleeve is closest to what I wear all season in very cold temps.
